We had a lively discussion at the April meeting about Shaun Tan’s The Arrival.

We all agreed at our March meeting that the crime novel, The Dry by Jane Harper, about three murders on a farming property in the Australian outback

While I am now based in Sydney the members have agreed the book club will go on! Muriel Baker is pleased to continue to hold

The book club had a lively, enjoyable discussion about Magda Szubanski’s memoir, Reckoning, on 4 January (which seems eons ago now for those of us back at work).

Written in 2015 and the recent winner of the Miles Franklin award, some of us described reading this novel as like being fed through a meat mincer backwards.

The last two months have demonstrated that we really are a book club in cyberspace with attempts to get together coming to nought!

Our meeting to discuss Oliver Sacks’ A Leg to Stand On, spent a lot of time talking about the man himself.

We had fun this month with Burial Rites, the debut novel from Australian writer, Hannah Kent, about a woman, Agnes Magnusdottir, who was beheaded for murder in Iceland in 1830.

Submergence has galvanised members which always makes life more interesting. One member said that she got through the first part then came to a grinding halt.

We had a lovely evening of discussion at Muriel’s apartment overlooking the city lights earlier this month. Muriel’s drinks and appetisers were so generous that none of us felt like dinner afterwards.
