For some of us the violence and the language were all too much and Boy Swallows Universe was discarded early in the piece.

It is rare to find a book universally liked by club members at our monthly meeting but that’s what happened when we read a Month of Sundays by Australian author, Liz Byrski.

Members were somewhat polarised in their opinions of this book – which always makes for an interesting discussion on Club night.

Members were impressed with Brisbane author, Ben Hobson’s debut novel, To Become a Whale.

Members were quite divided on our non-fiction title this month. Some of us devoured it and will probably read the second and third books in the series

Members all thoroughly enjoyed this hugely engaging book. The opening memorable paragraph sets the scene:

Eight young women graduate from Vassar, a respected single- sex liberal arts college in New York in 1933 (as the author Mary McCarthy did).

Most members found The Passage of Love was interesting to read, despite being more than 500 pages long.

Most members thoroughly enjoyed this many layered novel by Australian writer, Peter Temple, written in 2005.

Members not attending our monthly Book Club get-togethers may wonder what we are doing reading a book aimed at young readers.
